Midnight Club: Los Angeles Review

Midnight Club is fast, beautiful, and way too hard.
Midnight Club Los Angeles has a lot going for it: excellent graphics; fast, intense racing that takes place day or night; and numerous online modes that support up to 16 racers. Unfortunately, it has a few rather significant problems that hold it back, including a small roster of vehicles and gameplay that, while fun, doesn't break any new ground. But most of all, it is Midnight Club's excessive difficulty that makes it a very good racing game rather than a great one.Read More
Silent Hill: Homecoming Review

Eye-catching visuals and creepy atmosphere aren't enough to make up for this game's poor pacing, cheap tricks, and muddled story.
On the surface, Silent Hill: Homecoming is a dark and twisted homage to the series' classic roots. However, beneath the thick layer of fog are a number of troubling issues that will only serve to push away the devoted faithful that call Silent Hill their home. Developer Double Helix Games has gone to great lengths to bring its vision of the haunted town to life, and while it is to be commended for creating what is perhaps the most atmospheric entry in the enduring series, Homecoming is merely a carefully constructed simulacrum of what has already been done.Read More
Fable II Review

This Fable is light on morals and rich with adventure.
Albion is a world that's extremely difficult to pull away from once you get tangled up in its charmingly irresistible net. In Fable II's magical land, you'll come across crass gargoyles mocking your foul-smelling breath, nasty trolls erupting from the middle of luscious green pastures, and flirtatious women pleading with the local hero to put a ring on their naked fingers. This is a place that seems to exist whether you're actually playing or not, which makes it all the more compelling when you become one of its virtual citizens. The simple combat and predictable story make the early moments feel slight--as if the whole adventure will lack the depth needed to truly suck you into its spell. But once your initial doubt fades away, you're left with a meticulously crafted world that demands exploration, makes you laugh out loud, and urges you to experience all the incredible details waiting to be discovered.Read More
NBA Live 09 Review

NBA Live 09's gameplay has again seen some improvement, but there are still a few rough edges.
NBA Live has had a rough transition to the current generation of consoles; however, slowly but surely, the games have gotten better every year. NBA Live 09 doesn't make the same leap forward that 08 made, and the much-hyped dynamic DNA feature has little effect on the gameplay. However, new pick-and-roll controls, as well as signature playcalling, make this Live the best in several years. Read More
Crash Bandicoot: Mind Over Mutant Review
By Justin Calvert

Crash Bandicoot's latest adventure has too much backtracking and too many camera problems to make it recommendable.
Dr. Neo Cortex is at it again. He's causing all kinds of trouble on Wumpa Island, and, of course, Crash Bandicoot is the only marsupial who can stop him. With that said, Mind Over Mutant isn't a game in which you'll necessarily spend a lot of time playing as the titular hero. Rather, like Crash of the Titans before it, this is a game in which Crash's main function is to assume control of various mutants so that you can play as them and use their various powers to overcome obstacles. This adds some variety to the proceedings for sure, but the amount of backtracking that you have to do, coupled with a problematic camera that you have no control over, makes Crash's latest adventure one that you'll likely tire of long before you've played for the seven or so hours that it takes to beat.Read More
